Construction Phase

Update June 23rd 2018

We have endured timing setbacks over the last few months mainly due to the very wet Spring and thus the knock on effect on work programmes.

GJP made a fantastic job of the second phase of the construction including piles, pontoons and services and now we have completed pathways and drainage works the "site" is looking great and continues to receive many compliments.

Currently we are waiting for opposite bank protection to be installed at our entrance structure before our Network access agreeement is finalised with CRT.

Our new power supply is waiting to have a CT meter installed and then we shall be "illuminated under the hours of darkness"

Our new facilities block containing showers, toilet and laundry is complete with the aid of funding from "Worcestershire County  Council "Leader" - Rural Development Programme for England.

Landscaping is almost complete with surface wearing course to be placed on the car park and access track.

We anticipate opening late July, early August subject to CRT and the NAA being finalised.

Progress.

Our Earthworks contractors Hawk completed their work at the end of September. It has been a fantastic achievement involving moving a hillside of over 200,000 tonnes of earth and remodelling the arisings on site. The result is we have a superb backdrop of hillsides around the basin. We will be seeding the hillsides with wildflowers which over the coming years will give us an array of colour at flowering time.

GJP construction are now installing piles, pontoons and services to the facility.

Water has been ordered from CRT for early December for filling the basin which then will lead onto the 2 week stilling test which when passed will allow us to remove the 6m plug of earth from our entrance structure and make the connection to the navigation in readiness for opening for business by Easter 2017

25/08/17

It has been a long summer and a frustrating July and August with many wet spells to

contend with resulting in down time for the Earthworks contractors.

We are aiming for early September for a start on piling and pontoons.

Our target of opening in October has subsequently been put back and we would like to think that we may get operational before the Winter... but that depends on what the weather has in  store for us.

October 2016 has seen the start in the construction phase of the development of Withybed Mooorings of Alvechurch.

The isolation structure, entrance off the canal into the mooring facility is almost complete.
We have soft edge detail to build from the end of our piling and concrete capping beam out towards the canal this winter prior to internal excavations to the new basin in Spring 2017.
